“Healthy or Not Here I Come” BEGINS!

HERE IS THE FIRST FOLLOW UP to an “EARLIER POST” about a new journey for me!

So today it BEGINS (actually to be honest it started yesterday with some changes in my eating and exercise) – today was the first official day of my “weigh in” and I will try as much as possible to follow up each Wednesday with a record of how I am doing.

Now I do want to say that I am not in this STRICTLY FOR  A BUNCH OF WEIGHT LOSS – to be honest I am not someone who thinks they are all that fat and out of shape.  In fact I am way more “out of shape” than I am “obese”.  But I do recognize that I could definitely stand to lose some weight, the main emphasis is drinking even more water than I do now and eating healthier, “hopefully” smaller portions (I ain’t gonna lie that will be hard ha ha) and better times of the day.  Now I already do a pretty good job of avoiding eating later at night – so that is a bonus to my starting point.

So today – Wednesday, June 23rd 2010 – drumroll please……………………………….. my official weight is   235 lbs.

Here is a lil recap of how yesterday went – I drank over 160 ounces of water (that’s right folks over 1.25 gallons – and I’m sure you can guess where I spent most of the day – that’s right in the bathroom – whew this is gonna be tough getting use to).  Today I’m already up to about 70 ounces of water.  I have purchased fruit to eat along with my meals instead of just regular chips and even went so far as to purchase breads (I eat a LOT of breads!) that were better for me.  Lots of stuff in the whole wheat flour and whole grain realm – yeah I know how crazy is that!!!  I also am trying to go the route of eating more “snack mix” type stuff with nuts and raisins in it to snack on than using chips and chocolate (um once again I LOVE CHOCOLATE and to be honest I will keep eating my M&M’s in with the snack mix to help out with the sweet tooth)

The last 2 nights I’ve also done a lil walking/running (now those of my friends who are all about running and 5ks, 10ks, half marathons blah blah blah don’t get excited – I am doing LIGHT exercise and just trying to keep myself in good enough shape to play v-ball and the occasional sports that I enjoy I am not becoming a runner – have no desire for that.  If anything I would take up biking or swimming first.  My knees are not up for all that running mess!)

So there is the recap – now what would be some of my GOALS in this?

I don’t care about losing a bunch of weight – I’d LOVE to get under 225 and if I got down to 215 would prob be ecstatic but I am not pushing that much for that one – the 225 barrier is where I am fine.  I want to focus more on getting some conditioning back so I am not so worn out on the little stuff – and I also want to have more energy (Hey I am a BIG GUY and it takes a lot of energy for me to unleash this personality on the world each day).

I am also attempting to get up earlier – which means go to bed somewhat earlier (has not happened last 2 nights) and more importantly focus on getting up at the same time each day to get in a regular rhythm.

I also want to keep up my reading & studying – these are helped by getting to bed earlier and read some then as well as getting up earlier and reading some in the AM.  So those will be helped by this new physical regimen and will go a long way in helping in the area of wisdom and spiritual growth.

A final ideal/goal is that I have not been to the Dr. (I really don’t get sick or have many issues, which I guess can only be helped even more by this kick to be more healthy) in probably over 5 years (I really don’t remember exactly the last time).  So I am thinking if I take this next year (while I am 34) to really focus on becoming more healthy – then I can celebrate by doing some check-ups and Dr. visits when I hit the big 3-5 and by then have some good reports about weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc etc.

So there you have it – that’s the 411 to begin this new journey.  Let me know what ya think or simply leave some encouragement or make fun of me and let’s all have a laugh together!  Either way “HEALTHY OR NOT HERE I COME”!!

Yeah I just started yesterday to write my weight on my hand so I can be reminded to make wise choices and exercise. I need to lose 35 pounds or at least my gut, not worried if I stay the same weight as long as I replace fat with muscle. My prayers are with you.

  2. Hehehe, “big guy personality.” Love it. Hope you’re having fun in your journey. And hey, you’re two months down now so good job. Keep it up.
