To Fast? Too Furious!

vin diesel Ever considered how ironic the name FAST is for a Spiritual Discipline that requires one to SLOW down, and to STOP something that they would normally do?  I think it is quite an amazing and intriguing thing.  Something that I think all too often many of us may respond to the question with the exact answer I’ve listed above – “Should I stop TO FAST? – nah my life is TOO FURIOUS!” But when will we actually take the time to rekindle the powerful flame of this awesome discipline?

To find out more about the idea of fasting check this out.  You see there are many types of benefits for fasting that I won’t even begin to go into, but I’ll be giving some links to check out more about it.  This is a GREAT ONE (written by Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ) that goes VERY IN DEPTH about how to fast properly, how to prepare, what to expect and so on and so forth.

Recently a group of our family here @ Christ’s Church at Cobb got together and thought through and discussed the biblical idea and protocol for fasting.  Some of the passages and examples that were shared and discussed as well as some others to check out are found in:

Matthew 4:1-11 Jesus Fasting in Desert; Matthew 6:16-18 Jesus teaching on fasting – Acts 13:2-3 early church practicing; Some Old Testament examples – Isaiah 58, Ezra 8:21-23, and Esther 4:15-16.

So as a group we decided to set aside some time this week for some fasting and prayer for each other as well as the future of our entire church family.  We are excited to see what God will do to us, through us and for us during and after this time.  Fasting, as I mentioned earlier, has many different beneficial elements.  But one of the most important ones is that of learning SACRIFICE – which one of my friends Megan shares some insightful words about in a recent post!

So maybe it’s time for you to stop and take a moment TO FAST, or is your life simply TOO FURIOUS? If so then I would DEFINITELY encourage figuring out a way to write this into your schedule!  If not right now, then when – but if nothing else would you at least be willing to pray for us while we are doing so??
